The Cleveland Cavaliers host the Boston Celtics at their Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday night with the tip-off scheduled for 8:00 PM ET and live coverage on TNT. The Cavs enter this contest with an overall record of 23-7, while their opponent, the Boston Celtics, have won 6 of their last 7 games for an overall 19-13 record coming into this game!!!
With LeBron James back, the Cavs eye for a win against the Celtics
The Cleveland Cavaliers recorded a huge statement win over the Golden State Warriors on Christmas day, but came short the very next day when they visited the Motor City and lost to the Detroit Pistons (90-106). However, the Cavs decided to rest LeBron James in this game and give limited minutes to their starters, which is why the Pistons came on top and won this game. James should be ready for tonight’s game against the Celtics and there is no doubt that the Cavs will go for a win in front of their home crowd. The two teams met in November at the Quicken Loans Arena, with the Cavs taking the close win (128-122). It was truly a great game to watch as both James and Thomas scored 30 points for their teams, while Love and Bradley added 26 apiece. The Cavs, who have won 16 out of their 18 games at the Quicken Loans Arena this season, are averaging 110.1 points per game, while allowing 103.0 to their opponents. LeBron James leads the Cavs pack with 25.5 points, 8.6 apg and 7.9 rpg in 36.9 minutes per action. Kyrie Irving scores 23.6 points, pulls down 3.5 rebounds and hands out 5.8 assists per game. With LeBron James back in the lineup, the Cavs will only miss J.R. Smith, who will miss some time with a thumb injury, and Chris Andersen who is out for the season with ACL injury.
Boston Celtics look to continue their winning streak
The Boston Celtics are playing in a great form, having won 6 out of their 7 games. With the recent wins their overall record has been significantly improved as they currently sit at the 3rd spot in the Eastern Conference with 19 wins and 12 losses. The Celtics have, especially been great on road games, winning 12 and losing 7 games. Entering the contest against the Cavs, the Celtics have been averaging 105.4 points per game (in their last 6 games they score 111.6 ppg), while allowing 103.3 points to their opponents. One factor that really stands out in the Celtics game is their passing ability. Namely, the Celtics average 24.8 assists per game, ranking them 3rd in the NBA. Having lost to the Cavs once already this season, the Celtics will try to double up on Irving and putting some extra pressure on the ball, while Crowder should be isolated on James. The game should also be very interesting under the baskets, where Tristan Thompson and Al Horford will go head-to-head and showcase an exciting battle. Isaiah Thomas leads his team in scoring with 26.8 points per game, along with the 6.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds. Al Horford chips in 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. The Celtics have not reported any missing players for this matchup.
Both teams are in great form and have once already provided an exciting game this season. The Celtics are one of the most talented team in the East, but if Cavs coach Tyronn Lue doesn’t decide to rest some of his starters once again, I am sure that the Cavs will have a significant advantage in this game. Kevin Love could have a huge game, considering that he has a big advantage going against Amir Johnson. I also expect a lot of points, so stick with the Over!!!
