AAFL Week 8: San Diego Fleet vs. Salt Lake Stallions Game Preview and Prediction

Saturday night in Week 8 of the AAF season features a rematch between the San Diego Fleet and the Salt Lake Stallions. These two teams met in Week 5, where San Diego won 27-25.
San Diego is coming off a tough 32-15 loss at Arizona this last Sunday. Salt Lake suffered a four-point defeat to San Antonio on Saturday evening. Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 8:00 ET at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah Hotshots Defeat Sinks Fleet in Second Half Shutdown The San Diego Fleet found themselves tied with the Arizona Hotshots coming out of the first quarter of their game on Sunday afternoon. But Arizona would respond with two second-quarter touchdowns and then blank San Diego in the second half on their way to a 32-15 victory. Despite suffering the loss, quarterback Mike Bercovici continues to improve, completing 22 of 43 passes for 310 yards. He did throw to interceptions to go along with one touchdown. Bishop Sankey led the team in rushing with 54 yards on 12 carries and Nelson Spruce had a huge day, making 12 catches for 146 yards. The defense recorded just one sack by Damontre Moore.
Bercovici has done a fine job at the quarterback position, completing 52.4% of his passes for 1101 yards. However, he threw two more interceptions in this last contest, giving him seven interceptions against just five touchdown passes. Ja’Quan Gardner appears to have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff after gaining just 2 yards on three carries, but he still leads the team with 311 yards on 64 carries. After his 12 cats performance, Spruce now leads the team with 30 receptions and two touchdown catches. With his sack on Sunday, Moore now leads the team with six. San Diego has 19 sacks overall and 11 interceptions, led by Kameron Kelly who has four interceptions this season. Late Rally Falls Short as Stallions Fall 19-15 The Salt Lake Stallions looked like they were going to tie the score when a touchdown with about 4:30 left in the game pulled them within two points. However, the two-point conversion attempt was picked off by De’Vante Bausby, who raced 99 yards the other direction to seal the victory for San Antonio. Josh Woodrum had a solid day for Salt Lake, completing 22 of 35 passes for 229 yards. His leading receiver on the day was De’Mornay Pierson-El, who had five catches for 68 yards. Joel Bouagnon had nine carries for 35 yards to lead the team. On defense, both John Timu and Trevor Reilly had 10 tackles. The defense recorded five total sacks on the day led by Mike Purcell who had two.
Woodrum continues his solid but unspectacular play, completing 63.9% of his passes for 1295 yards. He has thrown six interceptions and six touchdown passes the season. Bouagnon leads the team in rushing with 315 yards and five touchdowns on 86 carries. The leading receiver is Pierson-El, who has 33 catches for 385 yards. Keith Schultz still leads the team in sacks with seven, which also leads the league. Overall, the Stallions have recorded 23 sacks this season but have forced just six turnovers. The Winner Prediction These two teams are pretty evenly matched entering this contest. San Diego continues to show that they are a far better team at home than they are on the road and the fact that Bercovici has been careless with the ball this season is not caused have a lot of faith in San Diego. The opposing team has covered the spread in every game this season for San Diego on the road, and we expect Salt Lake to continue that pattern here. The Pick: Salt Lake Stallions (-3.0) (-110)
