The Mavericks are looking to avoid their fifth straight loss
The Dallas Mavericks (26-33; 34-24-1 ATS) are on a four-game losing streak following a 125-109 defeat at the Utah Jazz this past Saturday, failing to cover the spread during that span. The Mavs shot 42.3% from the field, hitting 13 triples out of 36 attempts. They made 25 assists and only three turnovers, but it wasn’t enough to endanger the Jazz on the road, especially with some lame defense. The Mavericks are 4-6 straight up and 5-5 ATS in their last ten games overall, and are 2-5 straight up and 4-3 ATS in their previous seven games on the road. Luka Doncic sat out the clash with Utah due to a sore ankle and is listed as questionable for tonight’s matchup.
Luka Doncic is leading the Mavericks this season, and the rookie sensation is averaging 20.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game while making 43.0% of his field goals. Tim Hardaway Jr. is tallying 16.0 points on 41.2% shooting from the field, while Dwight Powell is posting 8.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest. The Mavericks are scoring 108.9 points per 100 possessions (20th in the league) on 44.7% shooting from the field (25th) and 34.4% from beyond the arc (also 25th), allowing 109.4 points in a return (13th) on 45.7% shooting from the field (14th) and 34.2% from beyond the arc (6th).
The Clippers were helpless in Colorado last night
The Los Angeles Clippers (33-28; 33-28 ATS) are coming off a heavy 123-96 defeat at the Denver Nuggets last night to record their third loss over the last six outings. The Clippers just couldn’t cope with the Nuggets on both sides of the court, shooting 34.5% from the field including three triples out of 21 attempts and allowing the Nuggets to make 51.8% of their field goals. Also, the Clippers scored just 40 points in the second half. The Clippers are 5-5 straight up and ATS in their last ten games overall, while they are only 2-6 straight up and ATS in the previous eight showings on the home court.
Lou Williams is leading the way for the Clippers, averaging 19.9 points and 5.3 assists per game while making 42.8% of his field goals. Williams is tallying 25.4 points per game on 48.3% shooting from the field over his last ten outings. Danilo Gallinari is posting 18.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, while Montrezl Harrell is adding 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The Clippers are scoring 111.8 points per 100 possessions (11th in the league) on 47.2% shooting from the field (8th) and 38.6% from beyond the arc (2nd), surrendering 111.3 points in a return (19th) on 45.5% shooting from the field (10th) and 34.0% from downtown (2nd).
- 1-7 SU and 2-5-1 ATS in the last eight road meetings with the Clippers
- 0-7 SU and 2-5 ATS in the last seven road encounters with the pacific Division
- Under is 6-3-1 in the last ten games overall
Los Angeles Clippers:
- 4-1 SU and ATS in the last five games as favorites
- 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS on the back end of the last six back-to-back sets
- Over is 7-4 in the last 11 games overall
The Winner Prediction
After all changes in their roster, the Clippers are still holding the playoff spot. The victory over Dallas seems like a must if they want to stay in a strong position. Although many believe the Clippers cannot keep the pace with San Antonio and Sacramento, I think they should beat the Mavericks at home tonight. Dallas will probably play without Luka Doncic which is a huge blow for the Mavs, so I’m backing the Clippers to cover.
The Pick: Los Angeles Clippers -5.5 (-110)
