Brooklyn Nets vs. Toronto Raptors Betting Preview and Prediction

The Atlantic Division showdown will see the Brooklyn Nets at the Toronto Raptors Friday night. The Nets won the first head-to-head duel of the season, beating the Raptors 106-105 in the overtime at Barclays Center in New York on December 7, 2018, while the Raptors are strong favorites to tie the series on the home court. NBA: Friday, January 10, 2019, Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, Canada, 7:30 PM ET

The Nets continue to impress

The Brooklyn Nets (21-22; 23-20 ATS) are coming off a 116-100 win to the Atlanta Hawks this past Wednesday, recording their fourth victory over the previous five outings. They are 4-1 ATS during that five-game span, while the Nets are impressive 13-4 straight up and 12-5 ATS in their previous 17 games overall. The Nets are 10-11 straight up and 12-9 ATS in their 21 games on the road this season and are 2-3 straight up and ATS in their previous five showings away from home. They are currently 6th in the Eastern Conference 1.5 games ahead of the 9th-placed Detroit Pistons.

D’Angelo Russell is leading the Nets with 18.2 points and 6.3 assists per game on 42.6% shooting from the field. Russell had plenty of problems with injuries in the past, but he missed just one game this season, starting in all other 42. Spencer Dinwiddie is averaging 17.1 points and 5.1 assists off the bench, while the young big man Jarrett Allen is tallying 11.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.46 blocks per contest. The Nets are scoring 110.9 points per game (16th in the league) on 45.4% shooting from the field (19th) and 36.0% from beyond the arc (7th), allowing 111.3 points in a return (19th) on 46.8% shooting (22nd).

The Raptors continue their battle for No 1. seed

The Toronto Raptors (31-12; 18-24-1 ATS) are on a three-game winning streak following a 104-101 home victory over the Atlanta Hawks, while the other two wins came against some heavy-loaded contenders. The Raptors have beaten the Milwaukee Bucks 123-116 on the road and the Indiana Pacers 121-105 at home to continue chasing the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is 6-2 straight up and just 3-5 ATS in its last eight games overall, while the Raptors are on a six-game winning streak on the home court, covering the spread three times in the process.

Kawhi Leonard continues with his excellent performance as a Dino, averaging 30.3 points over his last ten appearances while he’s tallying 27.3 points and 7.8 rebounds this season. Pascal Siakam is averaging 15.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game on 57.6% shooting from the field, whilst Kyle Lowry is posting 14.4 points and 9.6 assists per contest. The Raptors are scoring 113.2 points per game (7th in the league) on 47.5% shooting from the field (also 7th) and 34.4% from beyond the arc (22nd), conceding 107.9 points in a return (9th) on 45.3% shooting (11th).

Brooklyn Nets:

  • 2-4 SU and ATS in the last six games as underdogs
  • 2-11 SU and 6-7 ATS in the last 13 road meetings with the Atlantic Division
  • 1-12 SU and 5-8 ATS in the last 13 meetings with Toronto

Toronto Raptors:

  • 8-2 SU and 3-7 ATS in the last ten home games as favorites by 8 or more points
  • 20-0 SU and 17-3 ATS in the last 20 home meetings with the Atlantic Division
  • 6-0 SU and 3-3 ATS in the last six home meetings with Brooklyn

The Winner Prediction

The Nets are battling bravely for their playoff spot, playing above all expectations despite some serious injury problems among their roster. Just four losses out of their last 17 games are a great record, but upsetting the Raptors in Canada will be a tall task. Toronto is playing well over the last few weeks, Kyle Lowry is back from injury, so I think the Raptors should beat the Nets on this one. I’m backing them to cover, relying on their ridiculous home record against the Atlantic Division.

The Pick: Toronto Raptors ATS

The Total

In three of their last four games, the Brooklyn Nets allowed just 100 points to their opponents, but Chicago, Memphis, and Atlanta are all poor offensive teams, so the Nets should have a difficult time to slow down the Raptors on the road. Toronto is tallying just 109.2 points per game over its last ten outings, but the Raptors had some impressive offensive displays during that span, dropping 121 points on Indiana and 122 points on Utah both times at home. Hereof, I’ll take the over, hoping to see some good offensive execution on both sides of the floor.

The Pick: Over
